Edward Lee – Dead Conversations – 3

Dead Conversations
by Edward Lee

When I speak to the dead
they reply in short, sharp
sentences, their impatience
clear to hear, while
they look over their translucent shoulders,
as though whatever they do
in the dead worlds of humankind
is far more interesting
than talking to me,
a being alive”
without living.

I wonder what it is
the dead do,
when not talking to the living,
even those living
who refuse to listen?
I would ask,
but I think
that is one conversation
they are not willing to waste time on
with the lifeless living,
their ability to not care
greatly improved,
now that they no longer
have to worry
about living
without living,
the passage of death non judgemental
and seemingly errorless.
