Wren’s Song
by Milly Brown White
Change is coming.
Strangers threaten my nest.
My child grows big
And sometimes ugly,
Presenting new problems
New tests.
My sweetheart is leaving
To I don’t know where.
Maybe I will see him
But I don’t know when.
I’m afraid that
As the weather changes
So will he
And we’ll lose each other.
Winter nips at my toes
Under morning blankets.
Fear nips at my mind.
