Argument on an Icy Street
by Andrej Bilovsky
I'm watching a woman walk
away from a guy.
No turning back,
not even a furtive glance.
Despite her high heels
and the icy sidewalk,
she's as balanced
as the decision she must have made
to be striding out this swiftly,
even though her direction
is away from town,
and winter light is fading.
And her coat is thin
but she gets the warm from somewhere.
She goes toward the dark.
That’s where the brilliance lies.
