Hurtful Orphans

By MF Charles

Years slipped along carefree we went our own ways
secrets were passed jokes jibes lunchroom laughs
a bridge was crossed rough humor unbalanced unshared
hidden damage truly meanness in innocent hijinks
at another’s expense from a sham friend clearly now wrong
lost opportunities for unsaid apologies a chance forfeited
regret at last for any delayed healing final redress lost
orphaned thoughts. orphaned words. orphaned deeds.
