Todd Mercer – Apocalypse – 1

Apocalypse Rosary Prayer

by Todd Mercer

One of those personal cataclysms
too terrible to name, too huge
to know how you can withstand it
comes your way by surprise.
You have to believe/
trick yourself into believing
in the value of the good
you’ll still do for other people,
before your stint on the planet’s over.
You must remember in advance
the substantiality of beauty,
joyful moments yet to come.
If you are struck by lightning,
and are able—even with assistance—
to get up, hate to say it, but you absolutely
have to at least try to stand.
