By Madison Vulkanblomst
the tie dye of shibori
the rebirthing of the ocean floor
rays of light gently leaping
through the salinity of the swelling waves
reflecting rhythmically off of the sand
in distorted suns of indigo
the tie dye of shibori
the emerging of kaleidoscope silhouettes
when I close my sun-soaked eyes
darkness pearlescently pierced
with the pacific sigh of my bloodstream
in petals and garnets
the tie dye of shibori
the flourishing of sakura flowers
limbs golden-threaded with reminiscence
life is meant to be squeezed, pressed
in the sacred meditation of creation
exists impermanence, death

Madison Vulkanblomst is a poet from Orlando, Florida, where she grew up on pop punk, mermaid-esque swims in the ocean, and an adoration for the hibiscus flowers in her childhood home’s backyard. After graduating with a BA in English and philosophy, they ventured into the world of humanitarian and sustainability work, becoming immersed in the tensions of human rights and environmentalism. These experiences inspire her to flesh out the intricacies of our interconnectedness with each other and with all of nature, exploring themes of trauma, chronic illness, relational dissonance, and sociopolitical issues. Their work has appeared in Living Waters Review.
