boys like wolves

By Charlotte Amelia Poe

oh, but if i go to the woods
would you follow me?
footsteps in footprints,
wolf to my wolf
if you echo, my darling,
rainfall on fresh leaves
the trees awake and alive,
there before us and after -
and dirt on hands and beneath nails
and you hunt as i hunt,
and you howl as i howl,
oh, the night is so full of stars
and the moon is bigger than it's ever been
and may i beg forgiveness
from the maw of an eden that will outlive
the very bones of me?
